Bootleg 1986
So the DESTRUCTION bootleg spawned some comments re: CELTIC FROST at the World War III festival... unfortunately I don't have a copy of that, but I do have this, from a year later, when FROST toured in support of the To Mega Therion record. I didn't record this, but I was there, and had my puny teenage mind sufficiently blown! It was my first Metal show: CELTIC FROST, VOIVOD, and SLAUGHTER... it couldn't get any better! SLAUGHTER actually scared me, VOIVOD were beyond phenomenal, and you can hear CELTIC FROST for yourself. The quality is shit, and if it hadn't been requested I wouldn'ta posted this... but it was, so I am. For the diehards!

Damn, what a way to start your concert-going career! I'd KILL to have seen that show!

My first 'arena' show was Dokken and Judas Priest in '86. Later that year I saw my first 'club' show - Virgin Steele and Manowar. I'm pretty sure the ringing in my ears dates back to that Manowar performance...

Since this is a Celtic Frost post - I think the Tryptikon album is great - very heavy and atmospheric. A logical follow-up to Monotheist. But track 8 is a total waste of time.

Lastly, I saw VoiVod and Kreator recently...what a show! I hadn't seen VoiVod since '89, and they blew me away....even without Piggy. Incredible!

The other day I was telling some "Morbid Tales" about my "Vanity/Nemesis" to a "Monotheist" while swimming "Into the Pandemonium" across a "Cold Lake" on my way "To Mega Therion"... yeah. That was more fun than a "Circle of the Tyrants *Ungh*"

Were u sad that Running Wild did not play, but Slaughter did instead?

Hell no! I'm glad I saw SLAUGHTER at their peak (did they even have a peak... more like a steady decline), just before Strappado came out.

I have a live CF tape from 11/30/1985 is this the show you are looking for ? Everything in the cover is written in French so I don't know what it says lol.

This boot does sound like ass, but at least it's because of the recording quality and not because the band itself just likes writing shitty songs... like most of your current-crop bands that think blast-beating your way through a whole album makes you heavy.. um... Repulsion tried that way back 1986, and you saw how long it took them to get recognition, and most of it in retrospect. If only more bands besides Black Metal drew inspiration from the good old CF

The problem with drawing 'inspiration' from CF is you have to understand the talent behind CF in the 1st place. Every band I have heard that has been described as "CF worship" or "CF inspiration" get it wrong. Heavy sounds and gruff vocals do not a CF clone make.

Ah well, even CF gets it wrong (anything after their reformation)

I was referring to their use of thematics insyead of just random gore spam and the inclusion of subtle atmosphere as evident in their earliest recordings. They had a point, unlike other "pointless" extreme bands of today.

Crude sound, sure, but it's Frost. Raw, beautiful, frenzied Frost before the Cold Lake debacle. Damn, I miss that time, when thrash and speed metal was in its formative stages, with so many incredible bands coming out. Combat Records, Noise, Roadrunner (when they released quality metal), Earache (also when they released quality material), SPV/Steamhammer... those were the record labels I sought out...

To respond to a previous poster, yes, the Tryptikon album is great. I had doubts since I did not care for Monotheist, but the Tryptikon LP melted my face, making it difficult to shave for work.

Thanks for posting this.

Can´t wait to unpack this document...
BTW, Alcolm X, one German dude keeps nagging you at Ebay with regards to a certain shirt of a certain band - drop him a line, he gave you his band´s myspace address. ^^
UGH!!!
